Olympic Trivia

When did the bobsled become the bobsleigh?
Sounds like something from a Christmas Carol.

Bobsleigh debuted at the 1924 Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix and has been contested at every Games since, with the exception of the 1960 Squaw Valley Games, where the event was not held because there was no track. In 1924 and 1928, only the four-man event was held. In fact, at the 1928 Games, the four-man event was contested as a five-man event. The two-man event was added at the 1932 Lake Placid Games. Women will compete for the first time at the Salt Lake Games......Hope this helps.

David-
Once again, I think "us" arrogant Americans are to blame for all the confusion. Much like we choose to call it "soccer" while the rest of the world calls it "football"...such is the case with their "bobsleigh" being our "bobsled". You may have stumbled onto something here, I'm sure this is part of the reason for the 9/11 attacks. Yet, another example of how we brought it on ourselves and got what we deserve for not being SENSATIVE enough about how the rest of the world FEELS!
I shutter to think what that family of eight in the Sudan with no clean water, electricity, shelter, food, medicine, education or hope would think of us for this...
