Hurray for the Hippies et al

Amy and i really enjoyed the finale of the Amazing Race yesterday. The Hippies who we'd been rooting for because of their upbeat quirky stylings pulled off the big win for a million bucks.

Not like i care that much, but i was happy to see that Elliot got voted off the American Idol leaving Katharine and Taylor, who is a strange Joe Cocker/Michael McDonald/Ray Charles-trapped-in-the-body-of-an-awkward-white-man who is prematurely gray type. The show is real crap, but i can usually laugh my way through the panel's commentary in less than 5 minutes thanks to the trusty tivo.

After talking to Norm on Tuesday, i decided to do a complete workout of leg isolation drills on the bike this morning. Good God, I've never felt so bad after only 45 minutes, i'm still limping around, i've got to believe these will be effective.

Tomorrow night, after our niece's birthday party, we're hitting the Hot Art, Cool Nights down in the Government Street area. It's a cool hip eclectic soiree like nothing else in BR, should be fun. Maybe i'll run into Amy's crazy old heckler.

Judging by your description of the event and using Don's full proof logic...I'm sure he'll be there!

On a workout note...
What's the specifics on this killer Norm workout?

Here's what i came up with, Norm and i were just talking about longer leg isolation workouts. He told me he's doing 10 minute blocks. I need clarification on that because 3 minutes was enough to make me wimper like a child and sweat profusely.

The reduction to 90 seconds wasn't planned as much as my inability to turn the crank over at this point.

Strange stuff you learn, my left (weaker) leg handles these better than my right. I'm not sure if that's due to a strength imbalance or what.

Try it and tell me what you think. I did these on the rollers with the fork stand in very easy gearing.

10 min warmup
3 min right
3 min left
2 min right
2 min left
2 min right
2 min left
2 min recovery and standing
2 min right
2 min left
2 min right 5 sec left 5 sec (done without unclipping)
90 sec right
90 sec left
10 minute cooldown

From my understanding this type of workout is not meant to hurt. I do these rarely but with the mindset of helping to smooth out the pedal stroke.

Power intervals with a single leg? That could be real interesting.

Me too, i did them as technique drills for 30 seconds to a minute, but stretching them out like this hurts (me) like a mutha.
